Week 14

Week 14, day 1, Rubber Boot Journalist is working on pecans this week and starting a prune article. Did you know pecans are a very small commodity in California, a drop in the bucket with only about 4,500 acres compare to almost a million acres in other parts of the U.S. Finished Falling yesterday and working on the newsletter this week.

Week 14, day 2, Rubber Boot Journalist finished the pecan article and moving to prunes. Working on promo for Falling.

Week 14, day 3, Rubber Boot Journalist digs in to the prune article on tree canker. Also doing promo work to release Falling.

Week 14, day 4, Rubber Boot Journalist working on tapes today, lots of tapes and finishing the newsletter for Falling.  On the road tomorrow taking photos. Did you know prune consumption is declining as our population ages?  Does anyone remember when they used to be the rage and everywhere you went they were making prune cakes?

Week 14, day 5, the Rubber Boot Journalist is on the road again taking photos. I didn't get the newsletter done for Falling and proofed the next From the Farm to the Table book. So good progress.

Week 13

Week 13, day 1, Rubber Boot Journalist is wrapping up the nut acreage article this week and starting on pecans which are a minor nut crop in California.  Also starting a logging article and will be traveling to Mt. Shasta for photos.  And da-ta-da beginning the final read of Falling!

Week 13, day 2, Rubber Boot Journalist, still working on logging and nuts.  Kind of an interesting combination when I put it together.  Made almost a 1/3 of the read on Falling yesterday!

Week 13, day 3, Rubber Boot Journalist, just finished the nut article and moving on to a pecan article. Finished the read on Falling then had a major Word glitch.  It didn't save a past edit so now I have to go in and put all those edits back in Grrrr.  Not a great start to the day.

Week 13, day 4, Rubber Boot Journalist, still working on timber and pecans.  Finally got all the edits I lost on Falling back in and trying to get back to that final read.  Really hate computers some days!

Week 13, day 5, Rubber Boot Journalist trying to finish a pecan article and setting up a photo shoot in the Klamath Basin.  I've included photos of a tree being cut down. And drum roll--printed off the final read again for Falling! And double and triple saved it.

Week 12

Week 12, day 1, Rubber Boot Journalist, digging into two articles this week, walnuts and finishing the kiwis.  I hear kiwis are making a comeback after their heyday in the 1980s.  Will be interesting to find out if that's true.  Also, made big progress yesterday on Falling edits.  Here are a few pictures of kiwis.

Week 12, day 2, Rubber Boot Journalist is out on a photo shoot of walnuts and transcribing tapes on kiwi and walnuts.

Did you know there are over 280,000 acres of walnuts and it takes two to three years to even get the walnut trees from the nursery to plant because they are in such high demand?

Week 12, day 3, Rubber Boot Journalist hopefully out on a photo shoot today and still working on walnuts and kiwis.  There is just an explosion of walnut acreage in northern California and in several counties it has become their number one commodity.

Week 12, day 4, Rubber Boot Journalist is on the road to a photo shoot for kiwifruit.  Did you know kiwifruit is the most “nutrient dense” of all major fruits, and in 1992 it was listed as one of the top 10 most nutritious foods?

Week 12, day 5, Rubber Boot Journalist, wrapping up the kiwifruit article today and working on nut acreage article and trying to get a photo shoot scheduled!
